    from Third Meeting
    The little man got nervous. The weakening of diopters was in his left eye. The metallic voice became that of a nail. "Don't be careless, you don't want to go blind, don't you?!"
    The weight of the sentence terrified him. He took the cloth and he wrapped the glass. He was just saying something and he was hushed.
    As they were taken from another face, two blue eyes were eyeing him up and down as they wanted be sure of the size. The optician turned his nose up: "It's our reputation, please, now I have to continue my work, and considering you are a worker too, you know that time is precious as much as a good eyesight".
    The little man went back to the tangle of the frames, bars amassed like nests.

    L'ometto s'innervosì. Il calo delle diottrie era a carico dell'occhio sinistro. La voce metallica divenne quella di un chiodo. “Non sia imprudente, non vorrà diventare cieco?!”
    Il peso della sentenza lo atterrì. Prese il panno e riavvolse il vetro. Era sul punto di dire qualcosa e fu zittito.
    Due occhi azzurri, presi come da un altro viso, lo squadravano come a sincerarsi della taglia. L’ottico arricciò il naso: “Ne va del nostro nome, la prego, ora devo continuare il mio lavoro e, visto che anche lei è un lavoratore, sa che il tempo è prezioso e una buona vista altrettanto”.
    L’ometto tornò nell’intrico delle montature, stanghe accatastate come nidi.
