When is a table not a table?

One keeps seeing stacks of table along the alleys and streets of Venice. They have short legs and are obviously not for eating.

They are to contend with AQUA ALTA.

It is a seasonal occurrence whereby the tide rises and floods the area, making it impossible to walk. A bit like in India during the monsoon, but with no snakes swimming side by side with you, nibbling your feet.

Provisions have therefore been made, whereby these stacks are spread around for people to walk on them.

A whole new meaning to Table Dancing!
