  • at first, thorp was just a fruit market off the highway.

    but a birding fieldtrip revealed more including a park filled with yellow-bellied marmots. they scuttled away from our car, sometimes sitting up on their hind legs to whistle.

    that was many years ago, and every time i return, i visit the park and wait for the marmots to reappear.
