  • The grackles do or the grackles don’t
    have a place.
    Either their beautiful blue heads
    are pardonable or not.
Their manifold squawk in the early a.m.
brings out the worst in me.
Twice I have been to the hedgerow
    twice overturned nature’s course.

    Two species vying for territory
    disparate links on one chain.
Avian nuisance comes & it goes
    everything’s as it was
    ten thousand years ago.
King of the mammals, sapien stooge
messes with everybody even its own
(nothing’s not maimed, broken or ill
after human has had its fill).

    Either the grackle gets going
or I give up my throne.
