I had completely forgotten about Radagast, so Emil had to remind me of who he was when we met him today.
He is a wizard in middle earth (Tolkien), the same kind as Gandalf and Saruman. Radagast The Brown. His whereabouts has been unknown until now.
The Lord of the rings wiki
When messengers from Elrond tried to approach Radagast for his aid in the fight against Sauron, they found his dwellings at Rhosgobel empty. His fate after the War of the Ring is not known. It is possible he either fled into Mirkwood or was removed by the nearby fortress of Dol Guldur.
But today we quite unexpectedly found him, in the outdoor museum and zoo Skansen in Stockholm.
We saw and heard him from afar. Apparently he had completely lost his mind, from only talking to animals for thousands of years.
He was standing just outside the eagle owl’s enclosure. Paying no attention to the humans around him. In his right hand, a squirrel. He was calling a bluetit that sat in a nearby tree, by singing exactly like one, and soon it landed in his left hand for a while. Other squirrels came up to him and he gave them nuts.
One sqiurrel, he seemed to have some kind of beef with. He yelled at it, and urged it to leave. But gave it a couple of nuts anyway. The renegade squirrel yelled back at him, jaws opened tense, body ready to take a leap onto Radagast at any moment. But it did yield every time, at least for a while, before returning, and repeating the procedure.
This just kept on. It seemed the man had no other plans than doing just what he was doing. When we left, I almost ran a squirrel over with the stroller, as it was so eager to cross the street that it just launched itself fearlessly in front of the moving wheels.
