  • i have spent almost 20 months now photographing the people in the remaining portions of the Cabrini-Green housing projects in Chicago. some of these people are hard working people. some of these people are drug addicts. some of these people are loving grandmothers. some of these people are gang members. across the board all have been kind to me, and most have let me into their homes without question. the most common response given whenever i ask "how are you today?"... is "blessed."

    a man who i've seen many times, quickly photographed once, who in 20 months has spoken only a handful of words to me, came up to me on the day i took this picture and said to me ... "god wanted me to find you today." i'm not a particularly religious person but everything inside me believes him.
