  • Ever since I was a kid, I've always been intrigued by the way the witches/fairies/alchemists conduct their magic. It all comes from a spell. Then something magical happens.

Till recently I started to realize this is not totally fairytale. My Yoga teacher taught me this:

Everyday when you finish up your asanas (Yoga postures), bring yourself to a pranayama (breathing work) slowly and evenly, in the mountain pose with eyes closed, clear up your mind and enter into a meditational state. Hold up your arms then form a prayer, and ask your body, what you want?

Listen carefully. There will always be an answer. Speak out the word that comes into your mind. Speak it aloud affirmatively, so you'll own this word. Keep this word for the rest of your day. This word will empower you in your everyday life.

So the other day this word came to me: Happy.

Then I headed out to work. The bus schedule was mixed up. I was late for work. The weather was very gloomy and windy and I didn't put on enough clothes. At work I was given a very tedious task - I thought I could finish it within 2 hours but it took me an entire afternoon in the end.

Every little thing on that day just seemed to drag me to the opposite of "happy". But every single time when I got upset, I immediately remembered that I had promised my body that I was going to be happy. So I tried hard that day not to let any negative emotion affect my being. I had never felt such a strong determination to stay happy.

By the end of that day I suddenly understood this simple truth: Being happy is a decision.
It's not something you wait there till it happens. You have to make up your mind, be strong, and be certain about it.

I kept the Yoga practice everyday. And everyday my body came up with some words to teach me. I felt the gentle transformation of my existence.

I know for sure that the truth of the universe dwells within us. If we slow down and think about it, we would all know it. Formulate the words from within. Articulated it. Elucidate it. It will then become a magical power that performs its miracle on us.
