  • While walking last Sunday, I saw that the new owners were preparing the empty space for something. I immediately pictured it as a gallery, where the pictures could ogle each other from across the narrow room. This space was stark, colorless, empty, but its beauty was in its potential. The business right next door is a gun shop and the next one is a bicycle shop. On the other side is a bridal shop with its white gowns and sparkly beading. What an eclectic gathering of minds and ideas and spaces. Just like the people you meet on Cowbird.

Reading these stories helps me to relate to Cowbirders, to identify with them and not to compare myself to the places in them that are different. We are all so much more human than not, even when we're acting like insensitive idiots and hateful animals. We are all butterflies in the midst of metamorphosis. However, it's only possible if you stick with it, true to your heart, and always willing to BE.
