  • Hymn 1: The Devil Drives Me

    The Devil drives me
on cheap tires and bad oil.
I go forward with hell at my heels
    blind by the wind
and deaf from the noise of my own
personal demons laughing at the faults
    I wear as clothing.

My blackened minion steering is faulty
from too many close encounters with
a shadow I cannot bear to face.
(Not God, something far more omnipotent.)
I’m afraid I’ve left the road long ago
and now I drive through the Valley of Death
    lost and without a map.

    The Devil drives me.
And he’s none too careful with the paint.
