  • The First Day of Summer (sumardagurinn fyrsti) is today.

Hope springs eternal when this annual public holiday in Iceland is held and everybody talks about winter and summer freezing together as a sign for a great summer.

In older times we used the Old Norse calendar which divided the year into only two seasons, winter and summer and last night winter and summer froze together.
