  • For most of my life I haven't felt safe. Rarely with other people, and often only in my own company. Sometimes not even then.

    I'm not sure where or how to find safety - to find that degree of comfort and protection that allows you to relax and be at peace.

    Some people seem to find it in religion. I can't say that that's worked for me.

    Some people seem to find it in the present moment. I'm still working on that one.

    This is a drawing that I made six years ago. I pulled it out recently when I was writing a blog post about a song called An Evening Hymn, by Henry Purcell.

    This is a picture of how protected I'd like to feel.

    Maybe it's as good a place to start as any.
