  • In my daily orbit to school where I teach, I drive by a farmhouse art gallery. A small barn adjacent to the historic home serves as the perfect frame for the "piece" in the above photo. Yes, the words you see are a work of art. And art, as we all know, is meant to enlarge and expand us, help us to greet our better selves, and bolster our spirits. As Keats wrote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" but the same can be said for words of truth.

    When the world economy began its descent (late 2007, early 2008), this sign went up. 'Everyone needs to see that and believe those words,' I thought to myself. For some reason or another, this artistic creation disappeared for a while, but was rehung a few years ago, and there it remains.

    I hope this art enlarges and reassures all Cowbirders, everywhere.
