  • Ever since I was a young boy, I have been very interested in cars, mainly trucks and jeeps. My father was a fisherman all his live and he never had a car, in fact you did not have a car at every house in those days.

But my mother understood my love for big cars, so she sometimes gave me few bus tickets and then I would spend hours travelling around Reykjavík in the buses. The town was safe in those days, and it was not a problem letting an eight years old boy go out on his own. In fact, many of the bus drivers in my district were very friendly to the young boy who loved travelling with them and they often gave me a free ride.

When I was nine I spent one summer at a farm and some of my strongest memories from that time, are about the red Volvo with the grey body that came to collect the milk every night. I liked everything about that truck, the design, the size and the colors as well as the sound and the smell of the diesel engine.

All those memories came back to me when saw this old truck at a farm last summer. For a moment I could even hear the sound and feel the smell from the Volvo engine once more.
