  • Wisdom is knowing I am nothing, love is knowing I am everything, between these two shores my life flows.

    --Nisargadatta Maharaj

    i.

    sometimes.

    the gospel of eternal happiness
    becomes
    a tirade of everlasting sorrow

    smile. smile. smile.

    be happy. always

    forever.

    ii.

    banish all shadows
    and what remains:
    a blinding glare

    a mountain peak
    without a valley
    is just a pancake.

    plastic flowers
    that never wilt
    will never bloom

    iii.

    sometimes.

    you must love

    even with
    defeat
    hatred
    sorrow

    then you will
    know happiness

    without boundaries
    categories
    cages

    iv.

    sometimes.

    bitterness can
    vivify

    sweetness can
    atrophy

    happiness. happens.

    beneath the waves
    of the sea.

    deep
    --deep
    down

    in that womb

    where the whales sing

    In fathomless. stillness.

    v.

    do what zen monks
    say:

    stop choosing

    surf

    stop struggling

    float

    open your palms

    surrender
