  • You’ll remember the bouquet you picked,
    shadows and silent water,
    bouquet like a foam-covered stone.
That time was like never, and like always.
    So we go there, where nothing is waiting;
    we find everything waiting there.

    Pablo Neruda

Long grey giant swells of rain
rolled in today, like heavy surf,
    with thunder crashing down from
    the mountains,the creek tumbling
ancient stones on toward the dark sea.

    Sudden flashes of blue lightning,
then the crack and roar just outside,
so close I could feel the house shake.
All the trees dancing in the wind,
waterfalls like Niagra from the sky,

    falling waters washing down woods,
    meadow, orchard, wildflowers,
    blowing open bright green leaves
    just starting their new lives.
Smells of wet grass and jasmine.

Late this afternoon, I went down
to the sea, to sit and watch seagulls,
while the dark, tossing storm blew its
way south, a few black ships far away,
dark islands out along the horizon.

    Small shore waves, an emptiness,
a great, calm, open space in time,
the world, my world, my soul,
clean washed, fresh, like hope, like
starting over, like a new beginning.

Like love redeemed, renewed, like us.
