  • In A Place of Power
    from Seneca to Oneida
    Brant to Hiakatoo
    continental to loyalist
    they settled old scores
I am not of this place
    by birthright or generation
    but I walk Cherry Valley
    and know the dark spirits
    gnawing at its core
    lingering in gentle hills
    a violent foreboding
    no vision comes to me
    no terms to reconcile
    the old native ways
    and so-called modernity
to touch a bit of empathy
    in its cemetery stands
    a monument still worn
    by cold winters blast
I keep vigil on my thoughts
    In A Place of Power
