  • Last night I took my son to pick up his tax returns at an H+R Block--I waited in the car---a couple came out---for some reason I was very interested in them---they talked for about 5 minutes outside the door---it was awkward and strained--it was just like the Harry Chapin song, Taxi. I knew that they would get into separate cars---I knew they were still married for tax purposes---they both wanted to say something but no important words came out---I wanted to hear what they were saying--the nothingness things---how many people are like that---they ran out of small talk---she got into her car---he walked across the street to his. I imagined that they both went home to loneliness. H+R Block is a marriage counselor. Maybe it stands for Home and Romance.
