  • My breakfast journey has been wide and varied throughout my life.

    The 80s saw me obsessed with MacDonald's hotcakes smothered in whipped butter and sugary syrup making my taste buds dance.

    Breakfast didn't really rate a mention in my teens which often had my belly feeling ravenous by lunchtime and scrounging up loose change to buy a chocolate or banana paddlepop - always the biggest decision of the day.

    My 20's again saw the bad habit continue of no breakfast, only coffee and loads of it along with several heaped teaspoons of white sugar to take away that bitterness of nasty instant coffee.

    I have 'grown up' somewhat in my 30s. I'm down to one coffee a day, one flat teaspoon of raw sugar too and now the quality of coffee is essential - else I opt out altogether. My son loves scrambled eggs so I find my morning routine involves me nourishing my children's bellies with creamy, fluffy scrambled eggs, preparing their brain for a day of imagination and discoveries.

    My favourite breakfast moment though....breakfast in bed! Every.Single.Day. I wake to my toddler, snuggled in my arms eyes half-closed and reaching across my chest. As she lazily yet purposely pushes my singlet aside she clutches for my breast. My breast feels full, tender and longing to be drained while my mind and muscles are grateful that we've had several hours of sleep in a row.

    Knowing my body can nourish my baby drives me now to feed myself every morning. Wait, is that scrambled eggs calling....
