  • I looked at this carton of 'Cow's Milk' and thought of Cowbird.
For the past two years I've been saving tetrapack cartons and trading them in for notebooks made from recycled paper. For twelve cartons I get a notebook which I then give away to poor students. In addition I've also helped to save 17 trees, 4000 litres of water, 1350 kw of energy and 400 kg of fossil fuel.
The recycled paper is somewhat beige in colour, not a pristine white, but definitely usable. It can be used for rough work, for homework.
And here we are on Cowbird, a rainbow of different colours, black, white, yellow, brown. From different corners of the globe we meld to form a beautiful prism. Here we recycle our thoughts, retrace our steps, refresh our memories.
Some of us first put our thoughts down on paper; some type it out straightaway on the computer.
I read a few stories, follow a few people through their stories, and love a few stories.
These stories often nourish me like the cow's milk nourishes her calf.
Yes Alex, I've had many 'mooooving' experiences here.
