  • The other day I dreamt about my sixteenth birthday party. The dream was incredibly real. There I was dancing with my friends, enjoying the music in a happy and light mood.

Then I awoke. I gazed at the shafts of light pouring through a gap in my curtains and heard the birds singing.

That was a wonderful dream, I thought. Um, how old am I now?

I heard my husband making tea downstairs.

Realisation came…. I am sixty two.

Don’t get me wrong I accept my age and do not envy younger people, because I would not like to go through the traumas of youth again.

But to whizz through time from 1966 to 2012 is quite a shock.
