  • Anyone who owns pets knows how annoying they can be sometimes.

Like the times they won't stop crying, or they slip out the door when you're not looking, or they won't come back in when you want them to, or they throw up on the carpet.

Some days you wonder why you even got a pet in the first place.

Today I was home sick with a migraine. At noon I made myself some soup, and while I waited for it to cook I sat, very still, on a chair in my kitchen. One of the cats came running, and jumped into my lap, excited. It's so rare for them to have me home all day.

I wasn't in the mood to be mauled... But then I saw how much he was enjoying me. And my heart opened. In that moment, we loved.

And I remembered why I have pets.
