  • The sand cay where I frequent is a vast rookery- that is, many sea birds come to nest there all year round. Recently there have been a few cheeky Seagulls take up residence. I count only five Gulls compared to the mass of Noddy's, Boobies and Terns. They are no less bold being out numbered, I assure you...

    The five of them have worked out how to gang up on an unsuspecting female Noddy, diligently sitting on her egg, awaiting the return of her partner with the days catch. One makes a quick diversion while two others swoop in to move her off the egg, and the other two kick it to the beach where the five of them squabble and squawk over the spoils.

    The whole incident lasts about 20 seconds.

    But later, the male Noddy returns, and consoles his partner.
    The Noddy's nod, mate, and so, the cycle continues.....
