  • In the airport, at the gate, waiting for my flight, kinda listening to the announcements...
"Continental Express Service to Columbus Ohio, flight 1492 is now boarding at gate C-18."

I heard this a few times before it struck me.

I looked to the Asian kid sitting next to me and asked "Did you hear that?"
    "Hear what?"
    "Columbus, flight 1492."
    "Uh, I wasn't paying attention..."

A lady across the way looked up, listening.
"1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue... get it?" I asked.

The lady across the way and her companion laughed along with us.
I HAD to get a picture of that.

I asked the smiling attendant in the photo if they did that on purpose. He told me yes, and Philadelphia is flight 1776. He said there was another flight like that, too, but couldn't remember it.

"Flight 666 to Newark?" I asked.

"Yeah, there's guys sitting in an office somewhere thinking this stuff up" he told me.
"No, there's guys sitting in an office somewhere GETTING PAID to think this stuff up" I said.

"Damn. I didn't think of it that way."

It wasn't as funny once we knew they did it on purpose.
