  • Countless drops of mango milkshake go down my throat
Only a few touching those taste buds on my tongue
But it’s the last drop that gets all the attention
As it slides down the glass
This little drop of puny mass
Comes landing on that perfect taste bud
Making me taste it with greater consciousness
Relish it, and let it dissolve slowly while the flavor lingers
Like the pain in the tips of my fingers right now.

It should be that the last are blessed
Or are they really, or perhaps cursed
    Do we want that attention
Or is it just pretention of no apprehension
    No one wants to die
It’s not our fault, we are all shy
But if the world were to end
Don’t we want to be the last one to bend?
But what if your wish came true
And you stuck to the world like glue
‘The last man on earth’ is a great title
Behold the last of all that is vital
As the universe waits to see
    What will become of you
    Destroyed to the last molecule
    How does it feel really
To be that last drop of milkshake
Or the lost crumb of a wedding cake?
