  • I just love this photo that I took recently of some of my quilt collection. These quilts were made by my grandmothers. When I lie under them, it's like being wrapped in love.

The one on top is very worn and frayed. I used to sunbathe on it in my backyard when I was a teenager.

In fact... As I was writing this, I just suddenly remembered that I once took a photo of my brother and sister lying on this quilt. They were in the backyard too. The grass was green, and we were playing "fashion shoot." This was back in the days before digital cameras, when people didn't have as many photographs of themselves. My brother wanted some nice photos, and so did my sister. They were gorgeous young people, and I directed them to stand in certain poses, or look in certain directions.

I just realized something else. My brother died 15 years ago yesterday.

Just now I Photoshopped the photo of him lying on this quilt into the quilt itself. He's as much a part of it now, for me, as one of its squares...
