  • I keep losing cats. Not in the sense of "Oh no, I misplaced skittles in the house", or " Did I leave my cat at the hardware store?". No, I lose cats around a very specific event. I lose cats as the aftermath of the dissolution of my relationships, specifically the last five.

I realize socially this is a very un-manly (!?!) thing to admit to, that is, I feel remorse about losing these cats. But as it has become apparent to me, in all of these relationships, I actually was closer to the cats than the women I had been in the relationships with. Psychologically I am not sure what this means. Does it mean anything at all? Perhaps smarter people than me should work on this question.

After this last break-up, I finally realized that even if I had raised the cat (or in some of these relationships, cats), found or adopted, purchased or inherited the little furry creature, I never even got a say about actually getting the right to have custody of the cat. Is that right, custody? See, even today I am confused (jesus I hate, hate, hate social norms!!). Regardless, I am now companionless in both the female and feline way.
