  • Living in close quarters with thin walls can cause some serious distance and thick ice between people.

That's why apartment complexes aren't the friendliest places and why throwing a party in one usually isn't the best way to make friends.

But I think I found a hole with a loop in it. I don't know what that means exactly.

But listen. The answer is block party.

I thought it would be harder to convince people a block party is a good idea. The response was more receptive than I could imagine. My petition was signed in two days. And people are already starting to contribute. The Mustard Man said he'd supply some mustard. My good friend who's kind of a Deli Man said he'd get some meats. And the Alderman is down too, he's sending a fire truck and one of those big bouncy things.

I even got a face-to-face thank you from a new neighbor friend named Becky. Saying how much she appreciates me taking the initiative and breaking some ice with neighbors. And really, that's the stuff that makes me feel good.

I figured the only appropriate way to say thank you was by putting a whole bunch of bananas in the mailroom.

People are crazy. But sometimes they're really cool.
