  • I am in a taxi cab headed to an unknown location in Huan County, China. Beside me sits my best Chinese friend, "Ben."

Ben has invited me to visit his hometown and meet his family, whom he had not seen in more than a year due to his studying abroad at my alma mater, East Texas Baptist University.

I am uncomfortable at the idea of meeting his family, not because I don't want to, but because it will have been the first time he had seen his family in more than a year, and here I am, a stranger, accompanying him and seeing their private interactions.

He assures me that I am welcome, so we traveled overnight via bus to his city.

As we get out of the taxi cab, Ben leads the way to our meeting place, and turns around a corner. When I turn the corner, I see that him running, arms wide open, towards a group of people ready to welcome him.

They instantly surround him, embracing him, shaking his hand, grasping his shoulders - they can't believe he is there.

After all of the adventures, all of the memories, all of the experiences, all that time, he was finally home.
