  • They've read about Hurricane Katrina. Today we got to serve in an area where the water was above the roof lines. We met Mrs. Blackman. She lived in Georgia for five years, until her house was rebuilt. She was now hoping for some landscaping in her yard so it felt more like a home. We worked with a local non-profit, Beacons of Hope, where they do a variety of jobs on this parishes homes. Painting, repair, landscaping, etc.

Today we battled crazy vines. Fire ants. Being in a new place. Heat. Emotions. The kids felt overwhelmed. They wanted the beach. But something awesome happened…accomplishment. We got up at 6 am, drove three hours and helped Mrs. B feel a little more at home. Early on I didn't think we would get the yard cleaned and the three dozen trees, plants and bushes in, but we did.

I'm so proud, we did it together. We made a little difference for Mrs. B. I saw my family care. I saw my family work together. Today was a good day.

Up next the kids start picking what we do. Can't wait.
