  • I found myself, by a series of unusual events, in Roswell. We drove the lonely desert highway from Albuquerque as we listened to Ry Cooder. We ate jerky and "ooh'ed" and "Awe'ed." We craned our necks as we passed ghost towns and not-so-ancient-ruins. The dry air pulled the moisture out of my pores. I smelled the ocean on my flesh.

    I didn't miss it... the ocean 'is.' Just as I am.
