  • Young people from all over the reservation travel miles to go to high school in Pine Ridge or here at Red Cloud. They get up early sometimes even before the sun comes up to catch the bus or drive to school. Some high schoolers, like myself, don't have the fortune of driving to school so they get up early; enough time to get ready and catch the bus.
I get up every morning about 5:30 am to shower, get ready, and head down to the bus stop. There are four people including myself who share the bathrooms in my house. we have two bathrooms and three of us share one. My sister and I go to the same school so its easier for us to be ready at the same time but my brother goes to a different high school and my younger sister is still in grade school. When we get on the bus it takes us about half hour to pick up everyone else at there stops and majority have already gotten on. Then we head off to school which takes another half hour. Everyone sleeps because the morning is too early and most don't get enough sleep.
But I think of how I could be going to school at the nearest high school, which is Little Wound High School, but I don't because I choose to stay at the best school I know on the reservation.
My point being is that we students of the reservation travel miles which take hours of our day to go to a high school which we choose. I chose Red Cloud High School.
