  • A tent is pitched In the parking lot of the local beach in Los Realejos, Tenerife. It's a blue domed tent like the kind they sell in REI or in the LL Bean catalogue. All around the tent are the trappings of everyday camping life: a cooler, laundry slung over a few chairs, and trash bags, bulging and tied off.

However, a more permanent fixture around this tent leads me to believe this camper is in his permanent home. For just below the tent in a small soup-bowl area sits a grave marker: some stones holding down a piece of slate, surrounded by cement blocks on a piece of level ground. A picture of the deceased is on the grave and flowers are placed at the head. The beloved is a dog. I'm guessing this camper is not going anywhere.
