When these children put their hands on this buffalo they are reaching into the past, into the history of the buffalo people, their own ancestors.
So before the buffalo's spirit goes to the spirit world, he will look back and see, not the people, but the brotherhood of his brothers and sisters. We want the buffalo to know that we come here in a respectful way.
On July 7th, 2007 a prairie fire destroyed most of the Brewer Buffalo pasture and we lost our heard. Today the grass has grown back and we will plan on rebuilding this summer. We want to get back the buffalo way of life within our tiyospaye so that we can help our Lakota Nation and once again hunt the buffalo on our own land.
