  • If I decide to have an early breakfast, I notice that in the early spring morning, the sun does not yet shine on the dining table, thus forcing me to either stand by the stove in order to catch its warming rays, or like today, simply perch myself atop the counter, watching the village slowly come to life in the street below the kitchen window. Usually the shopkeeper across the way would be open by now, but he is on holiday...I imagine and hope somewhere exotic and hot. Perhaps by this day next week I can sit at the table again, since Daylight Savings would have been implemented, though really I don't quite understand this term because to me, in order to save something you must be able to put it away for later use...whereas when we change clocks we are simply gaining an hour of daylight which we use immediately, every day.

One of the joys of being single is privacy. You can do a lot of things that you wouldn't necessarily do if there was someone else around. For me this involves things like eating breakfast oatmeal directly from pots rather than on plates (I think my Dad would have a heart attack if he found out, he already has a fit whenever I stand and eat rather than sit down) and of course, drinking from the carton rather than in a cup. Some people may think this is distasteful but I think it is not only efficient but also ecologically friendly. Water after all, is actually one of the world's most precious resources, though we pretty much take it for granted.

These are the thoughts that float in and out of my head as I slip spoonfuls of hot sweet oaty mush punctuated by occasional crunches of almond and delicate bursts of tartness from golden raisins into my hungry mouth. Today will be a good Wednesday, I can hear a bird chirping to me from outside, telling me that it will be so.

"Mind is the forerunner of all actions.
All deeds are led by the mind, created by the mind.
If one speaks or acts with a serene mind,
    happiness follows,
    as surely as one's shadow"
