  • I visited a spiritual/eco community on Erraid, a small island off the North West coast of Scotland.
    We kept warm by lighting wood fires in our stone cottages, but the toilets were outside in the backyard.

    One night at 1am I struggled to put on my waterproof boots, threw a raincoat over my pyjamas and ventured out into the night.

    On my way back to the cottage I slipped on some mud. My legs went up in the air and for a few seconds I was blissfully weightless. Then I landed in the soft mud, onto my back with a thud. I lay there and laughed. If I had been at home I would have worried about the effects of the fall, and if I would be able to carry on as usual, but in that sweet community I knew help would be at hand, and there were always others to take my
