  • As one enters Big Basin State Park near Boulder Creek, CA, there's a sign posted that reminds hikers to watch for the occasional bobcat and mountain lion.

As I was on my way out from a long morning hike, I passed a woman and three adolescent boys who were just heading in.

We were right at the place where the sign was posted. As I walked on I heard one of the boys say, "But, Mom! Did you see the sign? Will we be safe?"

She gently responded, "Not to worry, dear. You'll be fine, I'm sure. They really don't have much appetite for junk food."
