  • There is a vast wind that runs over the shore of a beach with each passing wave. It is a cool breeze. A breeze that spreads itself in a multitude of directions, for it is free.

Now what do I speak of when I speak freedom? What does it mean to be free?

In this day and age some may say freedom is nothing more than an illusion that has been promised to its people from system to system to system. Furthermore they will tell me that freedom does not exist at all, not even in our minds. It is as if we can not even imagine freedom just as we cannot image this vast universe or the never-ending number line.

However, freedom is very much real. One can truly be free. Quite honestly it is an open-ended concept in which you determine what it means and who is deserving of such a luxury. Even to me, freedom is something I ponder upon greatly. I personally don't know if I will ever experience genuine freedom, for there seems to always be someone or something that limits or oppresses you no matter the luxuries.

Today, however, I speak of a woman who seems to have freedom tightly held in her hands. She lives, acts, and creates out of freedom by not caring about the petty feelings or expressions of others. Nothing limits her to achieve her fullest potential as she has done this on several occasions. This woman does not live upon this planet Earth with the rest of us. At least that is how she acts. This woman is somewhere far away in a world only she identifies with. This is a world where absolutely nothing is impossible. And although this world is so small as to fit within her head it has had a profound impact on who she is and what she will do.

There is an ancient tale that tells of a young boy who believed he could do whatever he wanted. All the people he knew, including his parents, told him he was simply young and delusional. So how did the boy respond to this? Like he was "simply young and delusional," for he did not listen. And within a matter or days the boy a had already done things no one ever though of doing again. By his 21st birthday he had achieved everything he wanted to do in life despite those that never believed he could. He was determined to do great things and did just that.

Similar to that young boy the woman I describe breaks barriers. However this is only done with here imagination and creativity. This is all she needs, as she has proven that numerous times.

Dahnraj, Free Spirit, you are limitless. Realize the weight behind those words, as this means you have no end. Your artistic creations have impacted many and that can be contributed to your beautiful min that I love so much. You are such a beautiful person with a mind that smiles even brighter. I can count on you for just about anything and I know I am not the only one. Throughout these couple of years that I have known you I have seen your capability. It is wonderful. If you were to ask me just a year a go I would have told you that you are a wonderful friend. You probably ask yourself why that may be a problem and here's the reason why: you are a beautiful friend. This means so much to me personally when I can call a friend beautiful based on creativity and personality. Your enchanted spirit brightens my cloudy days of high school. You have become a backbone for me whether you realize it or not and I appreciate you for supporting me. But most of all, as I have previously mentioned, more than anything I admire your free spirit. Everything you do is so original, fine, and free. Please never stop doing these things as I am sure you will not.

Here's to another year of being you!
