  • I haven’t figured out how Tolstoy, our $100 mutt, escapes the backyard.

    I haven’t unlocked the secret to this 13lb Boston terrier/ Chihuahua bully’s ability to chump a pit bull with unceasing barks and an aggressive pose.

    It’s baffling because Tolstoy can’t whip the quick front paws of the neighbor’s impassive, elderly, outdoor cat.

    What I do know is Tolstoy’s morning meeting with the post lady’s mace was a lesson in humility.

    But I’m uncertain if that meeting has taught Tolstoy to remain inside the gates.
