  • This is Cowbird reporting on a breaking news story. We want to get you straight to the action -- here is Kristin live at the scene.

    --Cut to reporter--
  • Thanks Cowbird. We're here, live at the Tidal Basin in Washington DC. Eyewitnesses have explained a lot about what is happening here. In fact, here's one now:

"Well, the sun rose this morning, as scheduled, and it was absolutely glorious. The cherry blossoms are in bloom, just a little past peak. I thought that maybe I'd missed them with my trip to Death Valley, but they peaked later than expected (or the revised expectation)."

    Always a moving target!

"Right? The blossoms didn't peak until Friday or Saturday. It was cold, rainy, and gray when I returned Sunday. Monday, too. But this morning dawned clear and bright so I walked into work, dropped off my bag, and ran out again. I guess I took my lunch break and midday walk a few hours early."

Today's going to be a long day for you!

"It is, but you know... cherry blossoms? Sunrise? This might have been my only chance for a year; I didn't want to miss it."

You seem to have caught it just in time!

"I hustled... Do you want to see a few pictures? I have a few on my phone. I'll have better ones later, from the big camera, but in the interest of breaking news..."
