    Our youngest at 16 is preparing to sit his first State Examination, the Junior Certificate;

    Our middle child, aged 18 sits her Leaving Certificate which will determine where she goes to college and what she studies there;

    Our eldest, at 21 sits his finals in his Engineering degree, his future in Ireland uncertain due to the current recession;

    My husband studies for a Masters degree, examinations pending;

    I am learning how to manage the panic attacks, dispel doubts in abilities, thread cautiously on thin ice when required, cajole, keep a quiet household, act as guidance counsellor, let go…..

    Lifelong learning!
