  • This photo was me, back when she hated me.

She took this photo with my phone. I also took a few shots of her while we waited for our food but she looked really bothered and unhappy knowing that I'd recently come from Atlanta visiting the other woman.

This was November 2007 and we'd just met in October -- two weeks after I'd met that out-of-town woman. Before I knew it I went from being single in my apartment to being some accidental two-timer jet setting and juggling. I was unhappy with that predicament because that had never been my M.O., but those circumstances led me to this awkward night in the Geido sushi bar on Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn, trying to make small talk while she only gave me curt replies.

When I look back at this photo and see that slight hint of doggish swag, I cringe a bit yet at the same time breathe a sigh of relief knowing that very soon after this I began getting my head together and taking her seriously.

We're happily married now and I'm thankful every day that we're further away from this awkward night.
