  • Whether we name divine presence synchronicity, serendipity, or graced moment matters little. What matters is the reality that our hearts have been understood. Nothing is as real as a healthy dose of magic which restores our spirits. Nancy Long

I play a game with the Universe that I call “Random Radio.”

The game is simple. When I feel like playing, usually in the middle of the night, I turn on one of several favorite radio stations to see what is on, and if it is interesting, I listen for awhile and then go back to sleep.

Wonderful things show up: snippets of interviews, lectures, meditation classes, and the voices of teachers long gone from us, such as Joseph Campbell, Alan Watts, and Krishnamurti.

Contemporary Wise Ones also pop out of the electronic ether, such as Pema Chodron, Carolyn Casey, and China Galland, an authority on the Black Madonna.

It was in an interview with the remarkable Sandra Ingerman where I learned about her book, Medicine for the Earth, and how she has proved that prayer and shamanic rituals can literally detoxify polluted water.

This interview “showed up” when I was gathering material on the power of prayer to transform physical matter. Coincidence? Synchronicity?

Night before last, in the early hours, I decided to play Random Radio, and found myself listening to a Sounds True interview with Coleman Barks, the great Rumi translator, talking about his latest CD release of readings of Rumi on Friendship, with music by David Darling.

I listened to the whole interview, being a passionate Rumi fan, and was deeply stirred, as I always am, by Barks’ inspired readings.

He read one of my favorites: “Like This.” It was the most magical hour. Then, I went back to sleep.

I highly recommend “Random Radio” as an excellent way to give yourself moments out of time, chosen by the Universe, not by you.

You will be amazed at how often, what you stumble into is exactly what you needed to listen to, to lift your heart, provide valuable information, and welcome you into a larger curriculum than you could never consciously create for yourself. Coincidence, or Divine Design?

    Try it!

Magic is everywhere, when we open our eyes and heart to see it!
