  • I had the opportunity to visit a small home here in town, created by the nuns of the order of Mother Theresa. They take in heavily heavily retarded female adults, mistreated and abandoned by their families. Horrible histories. The police eventually picked up these individuals and finally they found their way to this place, simple and filled with light. 20 women between the ages of 20 and 91 ate a simple but what looked like a tasty breakfast.

The place was filled with laughter and everyone wanted to hug and be hugged. One woman, born with Cerebral Palsy, now 50, finally, during these last months, with the help of a sweet physiotherapist, learnt to walk! She took my hand and smiled and smiled the sweetest smile and took me with her proud little steps around the yard.

It reminded me of a summer, when I was young and worked in a similar but big institution like this in Hamburg, also in a group of retarded adult women: I have never before or after felt as loved as by them and there. Just like this short morning visit in Casa Belen with the Mother - Theresa - Nuns here.

Retarded we seem to love better, right? So: what does that say of Evolution????
