  • I grew up in Rwanda in the era that the song "We are the World" came out. I remember being a big fan. When i was in elementary school, i use to sing it in front the whole class, even though i didn't speak english neither understand the lyrics of the song. Later, I learned that the song was dedicated to fundraise money to support people that were dying of hunger in the horn of Africa. 20 millions album sold, many awards were given to the singers, however the situation in the horn of Africa hasn't change. Women and children are still dying of hunger. 30 years later, I became deeply interested into foreigner Aid and its consequences. Does it do more harm than good? that is a long debate but what troubles me is this idea of raising awareness in the West by simplifying complex issues. The raison i am writing this is because of the KONY2012 campaign going around on the internet. A complex issue such a war can't be turn into something so trivial as a putting a poster on a wall. I am inviting you to educate yourself before you participate otherwise 30 years from now you will remember this video but people will be still facing the same issue of warlords and kids abduction. Give power back to Ugandan people, give back their voices and let support them by educating ourselves on their history.
