  • My writing instructor once told me that writers need writers. We need others who understand our desire to write, the process of writing, and the painstaking effort to find an authentic voice.

    Once when I was teaching a writing workshop, I invited a friend of mine to join. Her comment was that she'd rather have a tooth pulled without novacaine than open herself up to psychic surgery (her wonderful metaphor for writing stories).

    Not everyone wants to write. Not everyone can write. Keep your voice alive!
