Krill, during the winters month, when there is no light, feed beneath the arctic snow mass on algae. that is how they survive the winter months when there is no phytoplankton in the water to feed on. whales, penguins, seals, squid and fish feed on the krill year round. the all important krill’s numbers are disappearing with the polar ice mass melting.
