  • I retired last June from a long and wonderful career in education. It has not been a simple transition. I keep very busy, but sometimes it seems like the only goal is to keep busy. I was at my son's house the other day. He had his first child in September. She is a doll. I was talking to him about my retirement and how I really felt that I had to find a hobby. We talked a bit and then got onto the important business of watching the Miami Dolphins beat the New England Patriots.
Last Monday my wife and I started to babysit for our new granddaughter. It will be three days a week. Her Mom dropped her off at our house in the morning. When her Dad(my aforementioned son) came to pick her up in the late afternoon, she was taking a nap in my arms. My son walked into the room and said, "There's your hobby."
