  • I dreamed of walking on the moon. I thought one day I'd see the glaciers in Patagonia and walk below Iguazu Falls. I want to climb a mountain. My name lit up on Broadway one day, I was sure. Front page of the New York Times? Why not? I dreamed about having a newborn in my arms, and then another and another and another. Grandchildren all around. White Christmases. I dreamed one day I'd live in Paris, and Rome and Milan. I dreamed of one great love. I dreamed I would speak Russian and read Rumi in his own tongue. I dreamed about a book in the library written by me. A Nobel Prize. I dreamed I'd be on TV and meet Presidents and Kings. In my dreams I saw a world devoid of hunger and of pain. I dreamed I would hold his hand until the very end.

    Why not dream big?

Many dreams I never dreamed have visited me, dreams I never thought would make their way into my life.

Blessed me, realized dreams and undreamed dreams!

Don't ever give up on your dreams, my mother said. I won't, mammy. Yesterday, because of you, I applied to graduate school. I expect that I will celebrate my 70th with my diploma in hand, raising it to heaven just for you.

Estaba segura. Primera página del New York Times?

"Nunca abandones tus sueños", me decía mi mamá.
