  • I love this photo, taken by me a minute after my sweet Patti was born. The look on Fernando's face says it all. She was his third daughter, my second, our first child.

    I did not know then that Patti and Fer would only have six years together, and that she and her younger brother JP would one day try to wake him to no avail, while I was waiting for him for dinner with friends, worried he would be late. He was.

    A premature death, people would say. A life cut short. How sad.

    But I see the look on his face and feel the joy in his heart and I know for a fact that one moment of pure ecstasy is a life well lived.

    Me encanta esta foto que saque al minuto de nacer mi dulce Patti. La cara de Fernando lo dice todo. Era su tercera hija, mi segunda, nuestra primera.

    Poco me imaginaba en ese momento que Patti y Fer solo tendrian seis anios juntos, y que ella y su hermanito tratarian de despertarlo, sin suerte, mientras yo lo esperaba para cenar con amigos, temiendo que llegara tarde. Lo hizo.

    Une muerte prematura, decia la gente. Una vida cortada. Que triste.

    Pero veo la cara de Fer y siento la pura felicidad de su corazon y no me cabe duda que solo un momento de extasis puro es una vida bien vivida.
