  • Letters to the Future Project

Dear great great grandchildren, If you are reading this it means you found the time capsule I buried in 2015 in the backyard near our great magnificent tree. That is good news as it means the Paris Climate Talks were successful and got people seriously taking action before it was too late. Unfortunately, this week we had to cut down our lovely tree that the barn owls nested in. It had been dying one limb at a time. Four years of drought in California was just too much for it. We have come to understand the true value of water and each drop is a precious commodity. Then this summer when the fires came and for weeks the skies were a murky purplish black and the air burns your eyes and chokes your throat ... It seems the whole world is on fire. Then after months we got a brief reprieve with a glorious rain and at the end - a rainbow. It still seems to bring a promise - that the earth can be saved and not destroyed. And that this beautiful Garden of Eden we were given can finally be appreciated and treasured. So, if you are reading this it means we have made it. That mankind woke up and stopped its race to destroy itself and the earth. I truly hope so because I look at my son and in him see his children, and their children, and their children and you all deserve a future and a beautiful life. You truly do.
